Error with domain selection

I create a 'union' geometry object (called 'fiber_fp') from existing union geometry objects and cylinders. I keep the 'create selection' option on to automatically create selection for this geometry object. Because I want to apply a 'Floating Potential' boundary condition on the outer boundaries of this object, I create an 'adjacent' selection with the selection for the union object ('fiber_fp') as the input.

However, the selection for the geometry union object ('fiber_fp') is never created: the name appears but there is no domain actually selected. What could be causing this issue?

P.S. I am using Java API to generate the geometry.
