Step function for temperature equation

I wish to solve a temperature equation where the thermal diffusivity is a step function. If I could get a way of inputting this it would be brilliant;

Ideally I would like something like:

Define a step function "definitions - functions" Its name would something like step1, then you can call it in a variable of the form :
y=step1(x)
So what you need to do is to create two step functions, and then create your variable calling your step functions.
Then you go to your material, it has a thermal conductivity, volumic mass and heat capacity defined, the only thing here is to know in which term (k, rho or Cp) the step function is effective, because you know that thermal diffusivity is k/(rho.Cp)
