Force an object to contact non-flat surface

I want to add electrodes to non-flat surface (think of a cylinder or smth else) such that they are in full contact. How can this be done efficiently so that I can easily change model geometry (iterate over cylinder radius, electrode size and position) without spending 30 min every time to adjust positioning by 1mm on each axis until two objects are finally in contact?
