How to select and assign Interior Sound Hard Boundaries in complex models?

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Dear all,

I am trying to run a Frequency-Domain Pressure Acoustics study with a model consisting of a 3D grid of cuboid waveguides.

The cuboid waveguides are of 6 types. I have modelled each type as Geometry Part in COMSOL, with a waveguide channel with a different number of interior faces (e.g. 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28).

To successfully run the study, I need to assign Interior Sound Hard Boundaries (ISHB) to all interior faces of all waveguide channels in the 3D grid.

However, the process of manual selecting and assigning ISHBs is daunting and error prone, especially as I decide to scale up the number of cuboid waveguides in the model.

For instance, for a grid of 4 waveguides, I have 4*8=32 faces to assign at best. If I define a grid of 16 waveguides, I get from 128 to 448 faces to assign.

My questions are:

A) Is there any 'smart' way to assign the faces that I'm unaware of?

B) Would I be able to do this programmatically using the Java API?

C) Would it be feasible to design an optimisation study with COMSOL where the faces' dimensions of the waveguide channels are the optimisation parameters?

Thank you for you help.
