Difference between 3D and 2D ?

Hi, I have a question. Actually i am working on my thesis where i had to write why i used 2D model instead of 3D model. The main thing is that which things present in 3D that is not present in 2D and how different people make researches by using 3D model in future . All in all, i had to write a paragraph that what things are in 3D that is not present and we find in 2D. Thank you, Aqsa
