Identifying Acoustic Shape of Sound Localization

New to this forum. I am a researcher but limited in acoustic knowledge. Hoping you guys can help. Is it possible to identify the shape of a sound source? We are trying to identify whether the sound source is propagated from a point source or from a ring about a cm in diameter. Is there technology available to do this? Thanks

Jerome,

different source geometries result in different radiation patterns. If you can measure radiation patterns, you can compare that to different models.

Cheers
