Finding path loss in Wireless underground sensor networks (WUSNs)

I want to calculate the Path loss in Wireless underground sensor networks (WUSNs). I have equation Pr = Pt + Gr + Gt − Lp where Lp = L0 + Ls and Ls stands for the additional path loss caused by the propagation in soil.
Please help me in following points:-
1-> Which Model should I use?
2-> Which Solver have capability to do this?
I have attached the paper form which I am getting help!
