CFD and ALE Coupling to simulate a "free water surface"

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Dear forum users,

I try to simulate a water reservoir with a free water surface.
Therefore I want to couple the turbulent flow model (RANS, k-epsilon) with the ale-module.

I tried so far a bunch of approaches, but never suceeded (If i neglect the free water surface and simulate only the turbulent flow - no problem). I dont want to use the multiphase flow approach, since the moving interface needs a high vertical mesh refinement and I'm not interested in any flow simulation of air.

The following file shows my approach: ALE and Turbulent flow themselves may be solved, but whenever I couple both the solution does never converge. A simplified 2D-Model worked fine.

I hope that someone may help me. Another approach would be fine too (eg. remeshing every few seconds with a modified geometry?) .

Thank you very much!
Flo
