Temporal resolution in electromagnetic induction model

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

I am using the Magnetic Fields functionality in the AC/DC module to model the transient magnetic fields produced by eddy currents in a conductor that are induced by a time-varying magnetic field that is created by a specified edge current in a circular loop. The electrical current that I am specifying in the loop is in the form of a sine wave for one half of a period and then it is off after that.

The problem that I am having is that the solution magnetic field seems to be piecewise linear in time over time scales that are longer than the time scale on which the sine function in the input current is varying. In other words, the temporal resolution is not as fine as I need to properly investigate the physics. At first I thought that the model was taking large time steps and that the solutions were piece-wise linear in time because the solutions were being linearly interpolated between solutions. However, I have tried setting the "Steps Taken by Solver" to be "Strict" and the "Maximum Time Step" to be small enough for the effect of the changing current to be resolved by this has not fixed the problem.

Any ideas on how to fix this would be very welcome.
