I want to make a variable not dependent on some space variable.

There is a subdomain of a square.
And 'u' is one of solution variables, for instance x displacement in structurual mechanics modul.

But I want to make u(x,y) not depedent on x.

To put it briefly, I want to make u(x,y) -> u(y).

Is it possible?
