Dynamic mesh

I have a simulation which takes several days to solve using a HPC cluster. I believe I can cut down the computational cost by changing my mesh scheme. What I am doing is simulating the heat transfer due to a laser as it moves across a piece of metal. Due to various reasons my mesh size is very fine in relation to my geometry. What I would like to do is refine the mesh only in the direct vicinity of the beam, and dynamically refine the mesh so that it follows as the laser scans across the workpiece. It seems to me the dynamic and moving mesh methods are designed for allowing the geometry to deform, which I don't want. Is it possible to do this kind of calculated dynamic mesh refinement?

Hello sir.

I am a new arriver to COMSOL world, and I don't have the answers for your questions. But, I am thinking that I am making the same kind of simulation.

So, can you tell me how did u simulate the material addition to the process?

Thanks and best
