Metal Processing Module Updates
For users of the Metal Processing Module, COMSOL Multiphysics® version 6.1 introduces a new phase transformation model and interface for modeling titanium alloys, enhanced capabilities for modeling steel phase transformations, and one new tutorial model. Read more about these Metal Processing Module updates below.
New Alpha-Beta Phase Transformation Interface
The new Alpha-Beta Phase Transformation interface is for studying phase transformations in α–β titanium alloys, such as Ti-6Al-4V. When adding this interface to your model, it automatically creates several Metallurgical Phases and Phase Transformations nodes to the Model Builder that are relevant to both heating and cooling conditions. This functionality has important applications; for example, it can be used to perform welding simulations and simulations within the area of additive manufacturing.
New Phase Transformation Model
There is a new Hyperbolic rate phase transformation model, available with the Phase Transformation feature. This can be used to analyze, for example, the dissolution of the alpha phase during heating of alpha–beta titanium alloys.
Enhanced Phase Transformation Modeling
You can now further enhance phase transformation modeling with the new Parameterized TTT diagram and Parameterized TTT diagram, fixed exponent formulation options. With these additions, phase transformation data can be entered in the form of time–temperature-transformation (TTT) diagram curves, where each curve is defined by three time-temperature points and two curve-shaped parameters. The Parameterized TTT diagram option is found under the Phase Transformation feature settings and can be used with the Leblond-Devaux, Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov (JMAK), and Kirkaldy-Venugopalan phase transformation models. The Parameterized TTT diagram, fixed exponent option is only available for the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov (JMAK) phase transformation model.
New Tutorial Model
COMSOL Multiphysics® version 6.1 brings a new tutorial model to the Metal Processing Module.
