In accordance with our Quality Policy, COMSOL maintains a library of hundreds of documented model examples that are regularly tested against the latest version of the COMSOL Multiphysics® software, including benchmark problems from ASME and NAFEMS, as well as TEAM problems.
Our Verification and Validation (V&V) test suite provides consistently accurate solutions that are compared against analytical results and established benchmark data. The documented models below are part of the COMSOL Multiphysics® software’s built-in Application Libraries. They include reference values and sources for a wide range of benchmarks, as well as step-by-step instructions to reproduce the expected results on your own computer. You can use these models not only to document your software quality assurance (SQA) and numerical code verification (NCV) efforts, but also as part of an in-house training program.
This benchmark model computes the transient pressure distribution and film height in a squeeze film bearing for lubrication in a nonconformal conjunction of a solid sphere and an elastic wall separated by a lubricant film. This model solves the benchmark case of hydrodynamic interaction ... Read More
This verification model of nonisothermal laminar flow through a circular tube compares the heat transfer coefficient obtained from simulation with theoretical values based on Nusselt number correlation functions that can be found in the literature. Read More
Carbon dioxide in aqueous solution is highly corrosive and can cause significant damage to steel designs. Such conditions arise in pipes used in a variety of applications, especially within the petrochemical industry. In this tutorial example, turbulent flows consisting of carbon ... Read More
In this example, the homogenized elastic and viscoelastic properties of a particulate composite are computed based on the individual properties of elastic particles embedded in a viscoelastic matrix. Periodic boundary conditions are applied to a unit cell of the particulate composite ... Read More
Simulation of Maxwell’s equations in the time domain is useful if the objective of the analysis is to observe a transient phenomenon, to find the time it takes a signal to propagate, or if the materials being modeled are non-linear with respect to the electric or magnetic field strength. ... This example describes the cooling and solidification, from melt to solid metal, in a continuous casting process. The model includes nonisothermal properties, temperature distribution, flow field, and phase change. This example uses the arbritrary Lagrangian-Eulerian method for modeling ... Read More
This tutorial shows how to use the Surface-to-Surface Radiation interface to simulate radiative heat transfer with radiation between diffuse emitters and diffuse-and-specular reflectors. This model is separated in two parts. The first part focuses on a validation test for the radiative ... Read More
Magnetotellurics is a method for estimating the resistivity profile of the Earth's subsurface using the natural electromagnetic source provided by the ionosphere. This model was defined by Zhdanov et al. in a study published in 1997. In this article, various scientific groups compared ... Read More
The example shows a 1D steady-state thermal analysis including radiation to a prescribed ambient temperature. The temperature field from the solution of this benchmark model is compared with a NAFEMS benchmark solution. Read More
This model example shows how to model nonlinear propagation of 1D finite-amplitude Acoustic waves in fluids using Acoustics Module of COMSOL Multiphysics. The model is based on the 2nd order Westervelt equation. The one dimensional nonlinear wave equation is solved in the time domain by ... Read More
