the setting of refractive index of dissipative material

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi,

I encountered with a problem of setting in Wave Optics, that is what is the sign of imaginary part of refractive index for dissipative material?

e.g. whether the refractive index of amorphous silicon is 5.587+i*0.303 at 400nm wavelength, or 5.587-i*0.303.

Thanks!
Best regard!
