Microfluidics vs CFD for blood flow

Hi,

I have been running some blood flow simulations using the microfluidics module. When I consider laminar flow of Newtonian fluids, the simulations run in 3 seconds, but as soon as I consider non-Newtonian fluids I am absolutely unable to get any results, even though when trying to reproduce other people's work. I have noticed that the authors of such studies use the CFD module to run their simulations.

Hence, I was wondering what are the basic differences between these two modules in terms of constitutive equations, and if someone has been actually able to solve laminar non-Newtonian blood flow problems by ONLY using the microfluidics module, as all the studies I have come accross seem to use the CFD module and, sometimes and as a complement, the microfluidics one.
