Getting a feel for Relative Tolerance in Time Dep. Study

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

I've been doing some time-dependent fluid mechanics simulations with heat transfer.

Depending on how tight I define the Relative Tolerance, I can go from a simulation that takes 3min to one that takes 24min. How do I get a feel for how accurate a simulation will be vs. its Relative Tolerance?

How does Relative Tolerance interact with my meshing? I can imagine it being easier to get to the RT with a finer mesh, but then the finer mesh takes longer to compute.

Thank you!
