solvers for a radiative heat transfer problem

I'm studying a radiative heat transfer problem and let's say my 2 variables are J (radiosity) and T (temperature).
In the equations, the two of them are linked but when I prompt the default solver (and when it solves) COMSOL uses a segregated solver with J and T solved separately. Sometimes it converges and sometimes no, but I wonder how could it obtain a solution if the two variables are calculated aside??
The second thing is that I ran it again with a fully coupled solver and the results are greatly different (and less realistic I would say), so what is the process of choosing the best solver configuration for a problem?? What do we have to look at for??
Thanks and have a good day!
