Bandgap Analysis of Photonic Crystal(2D periodic) in 3D model

I try to work from the 2D model (bandgap analysis of photonic crystal in model library of 3.5a) to the 3D case.
I use the same parameters except for the height of 3D model is 100nm and the global function is 4.5e15-nEz. Because I found nEz in 3D model is around 4.5e15. Fortunately, I got the same results with 2D model.
I wonder what's the physical meaning of global function 1-nEz and whether the function in 3D model is right. If not, how can I calculate bandgap of PC(2D periodic) in 3D model?
Best regards,
Ray
