Extracting Electric Intensity for Regions Determined by Optical Mode Profile

I am trying to find a way to extract the electric intensity for regions that are determined by the optical mode profile using MATLAB code. I know that I can extract Electric intensity at single 2d cutpoints of my choosing but what I would like to do now is let the simulation pick the region based on the optical mode profile. Is this possible? How can I do this? Thank you!
