Dear Cris,
You can simulate the current distribution in the conductor and the magnetic field around the air domain using COMSOL Multiphysics and, most likely, the "Magnetic Fields" interface. To do so, apply the "Coil" domain condition with the "Single Conductor" option for modeling a solid conductor. To define the current direction vertically, adjust the settings in the "Input" sub-node.
