Best way to switch on fields in time-dependent simulations

Hi,

Is there a kind of recommendable way of switching on fields in transient emw-simulations. Right now, I'm using the step-function, included in Comsol, and I have some problems with the converge of the solver. So is it worthy do modify the the time-profile of the turn on process? And if so, what are more suitable choices than Comsol step-function?

Thanks a lot in advance,
Felix

Hi

for me the step function works OK, often one must leave something more than step()=0 at t=0 (by default step() starts at 0.5 at t=0), and then define 3-4 time steps during the step ramp (and during the rect() lowering from 1 to 0)

Good luck

Hi Ivar,

Thanks a lot for your help. The hint of not setting the value of step(t=0) too close to 0 was very helpful.

Best,
Felix
