flow boundary conditions: periodic velocity fall and normal velocity zero

Hello,

I am attempting to simulate a 2D flow of a suspension of solid disks on a square lattice. To reduce the computational expense of this simulation, I'd like to consider shear on a single disk at rest. See the attached diagram that depicts the computational domain. To find the effective viscosity of the suspension, boundary conditions must be as follows:

1. Periodic velocity field at east and west faces of primary cell.
2. Equal and opposite x-direction velocity component, u, on north and south faces of the primary cell. Note that this velocity component also depends on the coordinate y.
3. Identically zero y-direction velocity component, v, on north and south faces of the primary cell.

Boundary condition #1 I am able to implement, but I cannot find any way to implement condition #2 in conjunction with #3 for the north and south faces. Would greatly appreciate your advice on how to implement this in a simple way in the COMSOL single-phase flow module.

Kind regards,
Kyle

Sorry, I meant to say, "Note that this velocity component also depends on the coordinate x," not

Hi

but in 2D you have no control on the depth (or rather layer possibility on the depth. I would rather propose to start in 2D-axi, with a cut perpendicular to your view

Good luck
