Nanosecond pulsed laser simulation

Hello, I am a beginner in COMSOL, and I am trying to simulate a nanosecond pulsed laser for drilling holes in 4H-SiC. I have already set up the laser parameters for the pulse, but the temperature produced by the laser does not reach the expected 3000K (the ablation temperature of 4H-SiC) as in reality. I am unsure where the issue lies, and the final temperature even stays at 293.15K.

Additionally, I frequently encounter the following error during the simulation: "Failed to find a solution. Maximum number of Newton iterations reached. Linear solver error. Maximum number of intermediate iterations reached."

I would greatly appreciate it if any experienced users could take a look at my simulation.

Thank you, Ian

Hello Ian,

As a starting point for this type of modeling, it is good to go through some background modeling materials first, in particular: https://www.comsol.com/blogs/intro-to-modeling-transient-heating-of-solids-in-comsol-multiphysics and also: https://www.comsol.com/blogs/modeling-the-pulsed-laser-heating-of-semitransparent-materials Note that there are example models available with those, for download.
