casting of aluminium alloy

Hi,
i want to model the fluid flow during casting of al-si alloys. I have solved the model for laminar fluid flow but i cannot distinguish the point at which the alloy solidifies and velocity becomes zero before leaving the outlet.

Dear Mridusmita Sarma,

although I cannot help you with your specific model, I would like to point you to two example models from our model library you might find useful as they are dealing with metal casting processes (they are also available from the COMSOL GUI in "View>Model Library"):
www.comsol.de/model/continuous-casting-382
www.comsol.de/model/fluid-structure-interaction-in-aluminum-extrusion-4386

There are also general models about phase change available, e.g.
www.comsol.de/model/phase-change-474

--
Hope that helps!

Best regards,
Erik

I do not understand how the mold cooling works in the continuous casting example (.mph available on COMSOL website)
Where is flow rate of water in mold defined?
