how deal with overlapped faces and volumes?

I am going to simulate blood in a blood vessel. I need to create a cylinder as the blood flow domain. My question is that for the blood vessel (the wall) do I need to create a full solid cylinder, or a concentric (hollow) cylinder with inner diameter equal to the outer diameter of the blood domain? Although odd, perhaps when using a full solid cylinder, it can ignore the common faces and volume.

Your help is appreciated.
Manuel
