Transmission line. Impedance matching

I am trying to match a transmission line (microstrip, see picture (A) stub_matching.png) with characteristic impedance Z0 to complex load ZL.
According to the theory it is possible to match the transmission line using a stub (so called "stub matching") which introduces purely reactive impedance. Thus it is needed to place the stub with length _b_ (to match the imaginary part of impedance) at some distance _a_ from the load (to match the real part of impedance) . The stub can be open or short circuited. See picture (B) stub_matching.png. This is theory.
Now I want to match the impedances using microstrip line. And here is the question: there are 4 possibilities to place the stub (see picture stub_matching2.png). Which one is correct?
