PML Reflections in Water

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Dear COMSOL Support,
We are attempting to perform a scattering simulation of a 2D plane wave in water in the RF module. To test the background wave, we simulate an empty space surrounded by a square PML. In air (refractive index=1), the PML correctly absorbs the background plane wave and no scattering is seen. However, as soon we change the refractive index to 1.33 (water), unphysical scattering is seen off of the PML. Do other parameters need to be adjusted to avoid this unphysical scattering?

Please find the attached file for a demonstration of our problem, as you'll see the relative electric field shows scattering while there should be none.

Thank you,
Brendan
