simulation of shear and pressure waves propagation in solid

I want to do simulation of pressure (longitudinal) and shear (transversal) waves propagating in solid using Solid Mechanics physics. Is it possible to do it in 2D geometry? Or, do I need to go to 3D geometry?

What is the best physical quantity to plot to show the propagations?
