Iron Sphere in a Magnetic Field
Application ID: 118101
An iron sphere in a magnetic field is an excellent textbook example to demonstrate the effects of a magnetic field interacting with a permeable material. This tutorial series is designed as an introduction to numerically modeling electromagnetic effects with COMSOL. This series investigates four different background magnetic field regimes consisting of a static background magnetic field and three time-varying fields of 60 Hz, 20 kHz and 13.56 MHz. Each of these regimes has unique behavior, underlying assumptions and utilize different modeling techniques. All these models use the introduction model as a starting point and can be completed in any order.
This model example illustrates applications of this type that would nominally be built using the following products:
however, additional products may be required to completely define and model it. Furthermore, this example may also be defined and modeled using components from the following product combinations:
The combination of COMSOL® products required to model your application depends on several factors and may include boundary conditions, material properties, physics interfaces, and part libraries. Particular functionality may be common to several products. To determine the right combination of products for your modeling needs, review the Specification Chart and make use of a free evaluation license. The COMSOL Sales and Support teams are available for answering any questions you may have regarding this.
