Model Manager Server Updates

Version 6.3 of the Model Manager server introduces improved control over the initial database setup, a streamlined workflow for customizing the asset management system, and a feature for viewing changes made to assets over time. Learn more about these updates below.

Improved Control over Database Setup

In this version of the Model Manager server, administrators have the flexibility to manually configure the database during the initial setup instead of relying on the automatic configuration with the default settings, as in previous versions. This new option, accessible through the server's web interface on first login, is particularly useful when custom configurations are needed; for example, data and backup directories can be placed in a location with more available disk space than the default.

When skipping automatic database creation during installation, the Add Database page is shown for an administrator on first login. The page now supports directly creating new managed server components (when none exist) to be used by an added database.

Streamlined Customization of the Asset Management System

Customizing the asset management system is now more efficient, with repetitive steps reduced. In this version, administrators can create new attributes directly while adding or updating asset types and preview the Asset page for the corresponding asset. Additionally, a new duplication shortcut allows for quick creation of new asset types by starting from existing types.

Defining a new custom asset type in the Database administration area. It is possible to create new attributes while still remaining on the Add Asset Type page, as well as preview the attribute layout for the corresponding Asset page.

New Page for Viewing Asset Changes

A new Asset Comparison page has been introduced in the asset management system, making it easier to compare two versions of the same asset. This feature allows you to quickly view all changes made between versions, including both built-in fields and custom attributes added through customization.

Attribute Filter Improvements

In the asset management system, the following improvements have been made to the process of filtering assets by their attribute values:

  • It is now possible to apply filters to table-valued attributes by combining subfilters on cell values found in table rows.
  • New fields are now available to filter assets by their uploaded attachments, linked model and file versions, and web links.
  • The list of available attribute filters in the Filters menu is now based on the current selection of asset type filters, which means that attributes already known to be not present are hidden from the search results.

Account Language

Users are now able to individually set a language preference to be used in the web interface. The available languages are identical to those available for the server's default language.

The preferred language to be used in the Model Manager server web interface can be selected from the My Account page.

General Improvements

Additional improvements to the Model Manager server:

  • Search filters for assets and items now apply immediately when modified on the Home page in the web interface.
  • Links to any model or file version in the database (not just the latest version) can now be added on the Asset page.
  • A new Logs page has been added to the System administration area. The page enables administrators to download log files generated by the Model Manager server as a compressed zip archive.

Version Compatibility

Model Manager server version 6.3 accepts connections from COMSOL Multiphysics® versions 6.0–6.3.
